In the ACH Semifinals series featuring Stoney Creek and Dundas, the Generals are up 3-0 vs the Dundas Real McCoys with game 4 taking place tonight in Dundas.
In game 1, which took place on Saturday March 4th at Gateway Ice Centre, the Generals started slow but ended up with a 7-3 win over the Real McCoys. Dundas’ Chris McGuffin opened up the scoring half way through the first but their lead would not last long as Matt Dzieduszycki tied the game a few moments later. Dundas regained the lead on a shorthanded goal scored by Thomas Stajan in the second period, but again the lead did not last long. Dzieduszycki capitalized on a power play to tie the game again and near the end of the period Nathan Pageau scored shorthanded, giving the Generals their first lead of the game. In the third period Justin Donati scored in the opening minute and Igor Gongalsky scored his own shorthanded goal a few minutes later, extending the Generals’ lead to 5-2. Dundas’ Matt Foy got Dundas back within two, but in the final minutes of play Deron Cousens and Pageau scored for the Generals to end the game with a final score of 7-3. Generals’ goalie Dave Brown made 19 saves on 22 shots while Dundas’ goalie Mike Mole faced 48 shots and made 41 saves.
In game 2, which took place this past Friday in Dundas, the Generals came away with a 6-3 win. A similar start to game 1, Dundas’ Chris McGuffin opened up the scoring just over 5 minutes into the game but this time Justin Donati tied the game less than a minute later. Conor O’Donnell gave the Generals the lead about 12 minutes into the period and at the end of 20 minutes of play the score was 2-1 for Stoney Creek. In the second, Matt Dzieduszycki added one more, but Dundas’ Cody McNaughton got 1 back a few moments later. Ryan O’Marra then capitalized on an interference call against Dundas regaining that 2 goal lead and Dzieduszycki added another to finish the period up 5-2. Scoring calmed in the third with 1 goal each for Dundas scored by Kevin Harvey on the power play and Cam Fergus added one more in the last minutes of the game. The final score was 6-3 for Stoney Creek, giving them a 2-0 lead in the series. Generals’ goalie Dave Brown made 27 saves on 30 shots and Dundas’ goalie Mike Mole faced 48 shots and made 42 saves.
In game 3 this past Saturday at Gateway Ice Centre, the Generals owned the first period, allowing Dundas only 5 shots on goalie Dave Brown and scoring 3 goals. Newcomer to the Generals and former Dundas Real McCoy Chris Hulit scored 2 goals and Matt Dzieduszycki scored the other. The second period was more evenly matched with both sides scoring multiple times. Dundas’ Kevin Harvey put Dundas on the board but Jarrett Konkle answered back a few minutes later. Halfway through the second, Dundas’ Brad Bonello scored, cutting the Generals’ lead in half. To finish the second period Dzieduszycki scored his second of the night and Hulit added one more to earn himself a hat trick. That was all of the scoring for this game as neither side scored in the third period; as the game finished with a final score of 6-2 to give the Generals a 3-0 lead in the series.
