Allan Cup Hockey looking at return to Brantford

The Stoney Creek Generals hosted the Brantford Blast in their season opener this past Saturday at Gateway Ice Centre in Stoney Creek, beating the Blast 7-4. After a quick two goals by the Blast’s Chris Rebernik and Cameron Sault, the Generals managed to take the lead by the first intermission 3-2. Generals’ goals were scored by Mike Ruberto from Dylan Gilbert and Jarrett Konkle, new forward Igor Gongalsky scored on the powerplay from Matt Dzieduszycki and Sean Blanchard and Nathan Pageau rounded out the first period scoring with assists from Justin Donati and Justin DaCosta.
Generals’ forward Jarrett Konkle scored early in the second, assisted by Mike Ruberto and Dylan Gilbert. Brantford’s Charlie Stephens replied on the powerplay making it a 4-3 game. Shortly thereafter, Nathan Pageau added his second of the night for the Generals with assists to Ryan O’Marra and Justin Donati, to restore the 2 goal lead at the end of the second.
Another newcomer for Stoney Creek, Stefan Legein picked up his first point as a General, scoring in the third period from Gongalsky and Dzieduszycki. Brantford answered back quickly with a goal by Derek Foam. The Generals took a few penalties at the end of the period, but Nathan Pageau scored shorthanded from O’Marra and DaCosta to complete his hat trick.
Brantford goalie Brett Leggat made 40 saves on 47 shots and Daniel Svedin made 40 saves on 44 shots to earn the win for Stoney Creek.

The Generals are back in action in Hamilton vs the Hamilton Steelhawks on Saturday, October 22 and back at home at Gateway Ice Centre on Saturday, October 29 vs the Dundas Real McCoys.
