Early lead not enough for the Lake Norman Copperheads, drop 4-2 decision to the Piedmont Pride

The Lake Norman Copperheads (13-25) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 4-2 ballgame against the Piedmont Pride (32-7) on Friday at Winthrop University.

The Piedmont Pride took the lead in the sixth inning on a three-run home run by Derek Horton.

Horton racked up three RBIs on one hit for the Piedmont Pride. He homered in the sixth inning.

Ryan Huey struck out six, paving the way for a the Piedmont Pride win. Huey allowed one earned run on five hits and no walks over six innings.

It was a good day at the plate for the Lake Norman Copperheads' Chris Wright. Wright went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Kellen McCoy ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
