The story of the day is, without a doubt, Tim Morrison. Matched up against veteran arm, James Kuzniak, we knew from the beginning we were in for a show. We couldn't have been more right. Both pitchers came to play, Kuzniak didn't bring his best stuff, but he also had no offense behind him, as Morrison virtually owned every hitter in the Calexico line up.
It didn't start out so sweet though, Morrison was working hard and fast on the hill, but the first batter he faced, Bradley Routh, hit a lead off double to the gap in right, seeming to set the tone for the Outlaws in this one. Little did everyone know, that would be the last extra base hit Morrison would give up in this one. Routh was stranded on base, so would be every other Outlaw who reached base in the first 6 Innings.
Morrison was on fire, pitching 6 Innings, giving up 0 runs, only 5 Hits, 2 Walks, while striking out 6. It was not meant to be for Kuzniak, who threw 5, giving up 6 runs, all earned, 11 Hits, 3 Walks, and striking out 2. A pretty solid performance on any other day, but not this day, as the Blythe team Heated up with 2 Doubles, a Triple, and a lot of RBI Singles far and between. That Triple and one of the Doubles coming from Sean Jarrett who had a fantastic performance going (3 for 3, 2 RBI, 2B, 3B). Only a Homerun away from a consecutive cycle, as his hits went in order: 1B, 2B, 3B.
The Heat just simply outplayed the Outlaws in every aspect of the game, shut out until Clemens Cichoki came in to throw the 7th and gave up 2 runs off a Double and an RBI Triple from Bryce Avila, but they would bow out gracefully, taking a 6-2 loss.
