Brantford outlasts Whitby, 3-2

The game between the Brantford Blast and the Whitby Dunlops was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Brantford emerged with a 3-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Ryan McCarthy's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Blast were led by Derek Medeiros, who registered one goal and one assist. Medeiros scored 10:17 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Brantford. Joel Prpic assisted on the tally.

In a losing effort, Whitby was led by Corey Tamblyn, who finished with two goals. Tamblyn scored the first of his two goals at 17:36 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Scott Freeman picked up the assist. Tamblyn's next tally made the score 3-2 Brantford with 5:52 left in the second period. The Dunlops earned a power play opportunity when Chris Rebernik was put in the box for tripping. Freeman assisted on the tally.

Brantford additionally got points from Prpic, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Ken Peroff and Mark Taylor, who contributed one each.

Whitby did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Dunlops average 5.1 goals per game. Whitby kept Brantford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Anthony Marshall made 30 saves on 32 shots.

In addition, Whitby received assists from Brett McConnachie, who had two.

The Blast incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Dunlops' Jason Guy stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Whitby incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
