Cambridge falls to Brantford in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Elmira Sugar Kings and the Cambridge Winter Hawks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Elmira made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.
The Sugar Kings gained the winning advantage on a goal by Quinten Bruce 16:23 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.
Cambridge was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Elmira was able to score four times while on the power play.
The Sugar Kings forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. Elmira had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Sugar Kings' offense rang up 40 shots on the Winter Hawks' net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.
Elmira additionally got points from Ethan Skinner, who also registered one goal and one assist and Alex Peterson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Elmira included Ryan Walsh and Mackenzie MacSorley, who each put in one. In addition, Elmira received assists from Jake Moggy, who had two and Rob Kohli, Jeff Jordan, and Kevin Fitzpatrick, who contributed one each.
Cambridge forced Elmira goalie Jonathan Reinhart to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.
The Winter Hawks were led by Robert Proner, who had one goal and two assists. Proner scored on the power play 8:36 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Dawson Shackelton had put Cambridge on the power play. Mitch Montgomery assisted on the tally. Cambridge also got points from Sean Ross, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kyle Heitzner also scored for Cambridge. More assists for Cambridge came via Jake Beard, who had two.
Jonathan Reinhart made 28 saves for the Sugar Kings on 31 shots. For Elmira, Kyle Soper and Fitzpatrick were ejected from the contest. Owen Savory recorded 35 saves for the Winter Hawks. Cambridge totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. Team's Harlen VanWynsberghe and Proner were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
