Cambridge's comeback falls short, Listowel wins 5-3

The Listowel Cyclones came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Cambridge Winter Hawks, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Listowel led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cyclones' Jakob Lee scored at 4:08 in the third period to put Listowel up 4-1.

Holdyn Lansink was all over the ice for the Cyclones, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Lansink scored 17:06 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Listowel. Corey Flemington assisted on the tally.

Listowel's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Cambridge power plays. The Cyclones kept Cambridge's goalie busy throughout the game, and Owen Savory made 32 saves on 37 shots.

Listowel also got points from Lee, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Listowel included Brady Anderson, Brendan Cederberg, and Chayse Herrfort, who each put in one. More assists for Listowel came via Blake Nichol, Max Coyle, Connor Roberts, and Jordan Caskenette, who contributed one each.

Listowel was unable to stop the Winter Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cambridge eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Winter Hawks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 50 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays.

Cambridge was helped by Liam Hurley, who racked up one goal. Hurley scored 6:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Matt MacKay picked up the assist. Cambridge additionally got points from Sean Ross, who also registered one goal and one assist. Cambridge also got a goal from Yianni Skropolis as well. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Alex Mutton, who had two and Kyle Heitzner and Jake Beard, who each chipped in one.

Lukas Samson made 31 saves for the Cyclones on 34 shots. Listowel incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Winter Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mathieu Mercier was ejected from the game.
