Date: Oct 8, 2017
Press Release
This time last week the Tigers sat 8 points out of a playoff spot heading into the weekend. The Tigers faced a tough opponent on Friday in St. Paul as the Canadiens had won the 2 previous meetings.
The Tigers came out hard in the first period as they kept pace with the Habs. St. Paul notched a goal near the end of the first period as the 2 clubs continued to battle. Unfortunately the second and third periods are hardly worth mentioning as the game was turned into a penalty filled contest. Referee John Rickert from Cold Lake ended up calling a total of 277 minutes worth of penalties. The game ended in a 2-0 St. Paul victory but the lasting impact of the game for both clubs resulted in a total of 31 games worth of suspensions.
The Tigers took a total of 17 including goaltender Brendan Plant with 6, Defensemen Ryan Donald 2 and Bryce Stepanick 1. Forwards Carter Myhovich 2, Chase Fletcher 2 and Trent Dutchak 1. Head Coach Durwin Selte was assessed 2 and Assistant Coach Ed Vidal with 1.
The Tigers, riding a short bench on Saturday welcomed Frog Lake for their first visit of the season. This was a must win for the yellow and black as they are chasing the T-Birds for the 8th and final playoff spot. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Rylan Mauws and Ryan VanGenderen both found the back of the net. The T-Birds not to be outdone answered back with 4 straight goals including a natural hat-trick by Gordon Ladouroutte.
The third period saw the jungle cats come out and dominate. Brayden Wilson sniped his 2nd of the season to tie the game at the midpoint of the 3rd and shortly after Ryan VanGenderen and captain Nolan Blair helped complete the comeback win as the Tigers now sit 6 points back of Frog Lake.
News and Notes: With the lengthy suspension to goaltender Brendan Plant the Tigers will be looking to utilize affiliated players Brayden Chillibeck from the Vermilion Midget Tigers and Hayden Missler of the Wainwright Polar Kings AA Midgets to backup Danton Brooks. Tigers return to home action this Wednesday versus the Lloydminter Bandits and Onion Lake returns to Vermilion on Friday.
