Stratford holds on for 4-2 win against Cambridge

The Cambridge Winter Hawks tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Stratford Cullitons would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Stratford made the score 4-1 on a goal by Zander Pryor at 7:33 in the third period, and Cambridge got as close as 4-2 when Scott Del Zotto scored 19:01 into the third period.

Hayden Broomhead had a great game for the Cullitons, netting two goals. Broomhead found the back of the net short handed 9:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Stratford and again while on the power play 14:17 into the second to make the score 3-1 Stratford.

Stratford's offense rang up 37 shots on the Winter Hawks' net. The Cullitons were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of nine man advantages.

Stratford also got points from Deven Kropf, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Pryor, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Stratford came via Josh Miller, who had two and Joe Leahy, Cooper Stahl, and Jack Scanlan, who contributed one each.

Cambridge's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Winter Hawks surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game.

In addition, Cambridge received assists from Robert Proner, Tyler Harrison, Matt MacKay, and Matt Steen, who each chipped in one.

Stratford's Nick Redman stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Cullitons ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Stratford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Anthony Kotsovos was ejected from the game. Owen Savory made 33 saves for Cambridge on 37 shots. The Winter Hawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Cambridge, Rob Grant was ejected from the game.
