RAIN OUTS highlight final week of play
Date: Jul 27, 2016
The RSCBL is excited for two of it's alumni to have achieved a dream of playing professional baseball. Matthew Orefice and Eric Gutierrez, pitchers who have both participated two summers in the RSCBL are, and will be, beginning their professional carreers in 2015.
Matthew Orefice, former RHP from BRCC, played two season in the RSCBL before heading to Texas Winter League in hopes of catching the eyes of a scout. After a spring training invite in 2014, Matt was sidelined with a bicep injury but encouraged to return in 2015. This spring he earned a contract with the Watertown Bucks in the North Country Professional Basebll League where he made his professional debut May 25 against the Road City Explorers, pitching one inning and facing the minimum with a strike out.
Eric Gutierrez came to the RSCBL in spring of 2014 looking to find a location to play his final year of elgibility collegiately, after a tumultuous path of personal setbacks led him to Lousiana in search of a place he might earn a look by professional scout. During his time in the RSCBL in 2014, he was offered a roster spot at LSU Alexandria by coach Brent Porche. After completing his senior season at LSU A, Eric rejoined the RSCBL this summer to stay in shape while hoping to attend some professional workouts. Under the advice of the RSCBL, he attended a workout in Ozark, Missouri and has been offered a contract to join the newly formed Ozarks Professional Baseball League. Eric will report to his new team July 1st and presumably make his professional debut sometime in early July.
Congrats to both Eric and Matt for their achievements and wish them the best as they continue pursuing their dreams of playing professional baseball!
