Wednesday marked the first day of the annual Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament, held in New Orleans, LA at Barrow Stadium.  Alcorn State came into the tourney as the #3 seed from the East side of the bracket, and round one pitted them against the 2 seed Grambling State Tigers.

The Braves upset the Tigers 8-7 in the tightly played contest.  RSCBL Alumni Cedric Bell and DerVincent Hamilton combined for 3 hits, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored in the middle of the Brave lineup.  Starting line-ups had Bell (DH) and Hamilton (LF) in the 3 and 6 holes respectively.

Braves scored 3 runs in the top of the 3rd to jump out to a 4 run lead to pace the game.  Cedric Bell started the 3 run inning with a RBI single after a SAC bunt by teammate C. Walker moved J. Sanez into scoring position after he began the inning with a single of his own.  Bell later led off the 5th inning with a Double, but was put out on the bases later in the inning.

The Braves wouldn't score again until the 7th inning, where they posted 4 runs to take the lead for good.  Highlighted by a 2 run home-run by DerVincent Hamilton.

The Braves will face the winner of Alabama State and Southern University tomorrow night at 6 pm.
