After two games, the CCHL final is deadlocked at a game apiece. In a series that has been anticipated by Jr. A hockey fans all over the Ottawa Valley, the Canadians and the Lumber Kings have delivered huge hits, nifty footwork, and big goals.
Andy Sturtz, the CJHL’s Top Forward and MVP for the 2013-14 season, leads the field with five points (two goals, three assists) in the two games. Anthony Nellis and Alexandre Boivin pace the Lumber Kings with four points each.
As expected, it hasn’t exactly been a goaltender’s affair. The teams scored 17 goals in the first two games, despite a combined success rate of just 19.0% on the powerplay.
Although Pembroke out hit their opponents en route to the Bogart Cup Finals, they have met their match in the Canadians. Carleton Place’s deadline deal for Maxime St. Pierre has paid off—he has been a dominant presence both along the glass and in front of Pembroke goaltender Jordan Piccolino. Big forward Vinny Post has also played well.
The teams will reconvene for Game 3 on Thursday, April 15 at 7:30 pm.
Regardless of who wins this series, the MHL and LHJQ representatives will have their hands full when they face the CCHL champions in the Fred Page Cup tournament.
