The Lexington Adult Baseball League announced its 2014 individual award winners at its year-end banquet on September 20, as voted upon by the League's Board of Directors.
Most Valuable Player – Bryce Goldbach and Donnie Johnson (tied)
Pitcher of the Year – Donnie Johnson
Hitter of the Year – Jake Goodman
Bryce Goldbach led the Miners to a second place finish with his work on both the mound and the dish. For his efforts, he was named co-MVP. His .368 batting average was good enough for third in the league. He slugged .632, with 5 doubles, 5 triples, and 15 runs on 21 hits. He also made his presence felt on the mound, pitching 42 1/3 innings, going 3-2 with a 2.12 ERA. He exhibited excellent control, striking out 57 and only walking 9.
Donnie Johnson led the Stallions to a 17-3 season that included both the regular season and tournament championships. His efforts earned him the co-MVP and Pitcher of the Year awards. Johnson simply dominated on the mound, finishing the year with a 12-1 record a 2.06 ERA. He threw 78 2/3 innings and led the league with 101 strikeouts. As the Stallions workhorse, he threw 24 more innings than any other pitcher in the league in 2014. While most valued for his pitching, he also contributed heavily at the plate, batting .298 on the season with 9 RBIs and an OPS of .778.
Jake Goodman was voted the LABL Hitter of the Year. His two homeruns tied for the league lead, one of which was a memorable shot at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in the Bluegrass Baseball Classic. Goodman’s.373 batting average was good enough for second in the league. He also finished second in RBIs, third in slugging (.549), and fourth in OPS (.988).
