June 8th @ Georgetown College

The Bombers came out strong and jumped on starter Daniel Carr.  They scored seven runs in the first two innings behind solid games by Joey Stamper, Ryan Ellis, and Michael Oaks who had three RBI each.  Oaks’ triple was the big hit of the game.  Meanwhile, the Diamond Dogs were held to six hits by Jared Long and Christian Vain over seven innings, including two by Brad Shepherd.  The game was shortened to seven innings as the Diamond Dogs ran out of pitching and the score was deemed insurmountable.

June 8th @ Woodford Middle School

The Miners squeaked out a one-run win over the Smokies in this ten-inning thriller.  The Smokies lead early behind solid hitting from the whole line-up.  Michael Laswell did lead with two hits, but the lone RBI came from Chris Works.  Works also pitched a complete game seven-hitter behind a stunning league record 21 strikeouts.  The Miners were able to grab three in the bottom of the 8th to draw the score even.  They were paced by the three hits of Ryan Blevens who also had a double and triple.   Blade Hampton also contributed two RBI.  Chad Brown worked three scoreless innings to preserve the win.

June 12th @ Sayre Athletic Complex

The Smokies outlasted the Bombers in this early season slugfest.  Evan Hackney’s four RBI paced the Smokies, though he was matched by Ryan Ellis who had four RBI of his own.  Matt Roberts got the win, despite giving up 10 runs, only four of which were earned.  Steve Whisler pitched four strong innings out of the pen, only giving up one run in the ninth, spoiling the comeback bid of the Bombers.  They were kept in the game by William Tipton’s four innings of one-run ball.

June 12th @ Woodford Middle School

W:  Daniel Kusakari       L: Eric Anderson

In the first game of a double-header, Daniel Kusakari pitched a seven-inning complete game six-hitter to earn the victory.  With 14 strikeouts, Kusakari baffled the Stallions hitters all afternoon.  Chris Laporte banged out three hits and two RBI to pace the offense.  Paul Poirier and Ethan McKiddy also added two RBI.  Daniel Carr and Nolan Sanders had multi-hit games.  For the Stallions, Eric Anderson took the loss, but pitched solidly.  He was victimized by three unearned runs while giving up an additional four earned.  Dan Greenburg had two hits and two RBI in the loss.

June 12th @ Woodford Middle School

The Diamond Dogs completed a double-header sweep over the Stallions, keeping everyone close in the league standings.  Nolan Sanders gave the Diamond Dogs several shut-out innings, allowing Ethan McKiddy’s hot hitting to carry the offense to victory.  McKiddy had a triple, double, and single and increased his average to .667.  Donnie Johnson suffered his first loss of the season thanks to four unearned runs over eight innings.  Eric Sanders picked up three hits of his own in the losing effort.

June 12th @ Sayre Athletic Complex

So far this season, a lot of runs get scored when the Smokies and Bombers get together.  The Smokies started the day off right with 11 runs in the first three innings.  This included a quadruple collection of RBI singles by Mike Speck, Joey Drinkard, Josh Watts, and Chris Works.  Watts would end up with four RBI on the day, followed closely by Mike Speck with three and Jesse Tudor and Joey Drinkard with two each.  The Bombers offense came alive right from the beginning as well with back to back triples by Evan Baker and Michael Oaks.  Andrew Kling would finish with four RBI on the day.  However, the Smokies regained the lead in the second and never looked back.  George Durham came on in relief and was able to hold the Bombers to two runs in the last three innings.

June 15th @ Georgetown College

Joey Stamper went 3-3 with two doubles and Keith Duncan had two hits to pace the Bombers.  Christian Vain held the Stallions to one unearned run during the four-plus relief innings he pitched.

June 15th @ Woodford Middle School

W: Daniel Carr          L: Forrest Walters

In a battle for first place, the Diamond Dogs held off the Miners to take charge of the LABL.  Daniel Carr held the Dogs to two runs over four innings to get the win.  Forrest Walters pitched well in defeat allowing only two earned runs in six innings.  Unfortunately, the Diamond Dogs allowed five unearned runs as well.  Ethan McKiddy hit his second triple of the season and Chris Brooks and Chris LaPorte collected two RBI each for the Diamond Dogs offense.  Ace Heart picked up a double in the loss and Blade Hampton scored two runs for the Miners.

June 19th @ Georgetown College

The Smokies won an offensive contest against the Stallions 14-11.  Evan Hackney racked up three RBIs on four hits including a home run for the SmokiesChris Works eight strikeouts were enough to push Smokies past the Stallions. Works allowed two earned runs on two hits and two walks over five innings.  Eric Andersen ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, and was charged with the loss. He allowed nine runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out two.  Matt Roberts put away the final three outs to record the save for the Smokies.  The lead stayed with the Smokies after the second, when they scored two runs on a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Michael Laswell.  Two the Stallions runs crossed the plate in the bottom half of the fourth, making the score 9-2. A fielder's choice and an RBI single by Dan Greenberg fueled the Stallions' comeback.  The Stallions scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut their deficit to six. A RBI single by Eric Andersen, a groundout by Justin Warner, and a sacrifice fly by Eric Sanders gave the Stallions life. Four runs in the bottom of the ninth helped the Stallions close their deficit to 14-11. A two-run double by Eric Sanders and a two-run double by Johnson set off the Stallions rally, but it fell short.

June 19th @ Woodford Middle School

A four-run 8th inning comeback sealed the victory for the Bombers.  They got two RBI and at least two hits from each of Jason Ross, Joey Stamper and Austin Jones.  Ross had an additional single and Ryan Ellis also added two RBI.  Levi Christopher provided four innings of one-run ball to pace the pitching staff and Christian Vain closed out the ninth for the save.  The Diamond Dogs did get five RBI and the third home run of the season from Ethan McKiddy and a run or RBI from each player in the lineup, but it wasn’t enough to pull out a victory.

June22 @ Georgetown College

The Miners kept pace on the league lead with a thrilling one-run victory in ten innings.  The pitching in this game was outstanding with Donnie Johnson going the distance for the Stallions and Lance Shelton and Chad Brown continuing to dominate for the Miners.  The three pitchers combined for 33 strikeouts with Johnson whiffing 18.  The three RBI were earned by Dan Greenburg for the Stallions and Ace Heart and Patrick Garvey for the winning Miners.

June26 @ Georgetown College

The Bombers pulled even with the Stallions by erupting for a season high 21 runs.  They were led by three RBI each from Ryan Ellis, Michael Oaks, Levi Christopher and Keith Duncan.  Oaks also led the team with 3 hits. Austin Jones and Rob Franzen also had perfect days at the plate going 2-2.  Franzen also contributed four innings on the mound and only gave up two runs.  Jared Long and Michael Oaks held the victory with five shut-out innings between them.  Dan Greenburg and Eric Sanders had RBI hits for the Stallions.

June26 @ Sayre Athletic Complex

Eric Sanders had a career day, launching two home runs to carry the Stallions to victory.  Evan Charles added a home run and Dan Greenburg had three hits in the win.  Joel Katte and Daniel Kusakari each had multi-hit games for the Diamond Dogs.  Derrick Shepherd pitched three innings and gave up just one run to start the game, but the Diamond Dogs relievers could not hold the lead.

June 26 @ Georgetown College

W:  Chris Works       L: Austin Heilman

Chris Works led Smokies to their fourth win in a row with strong performances on the mound and at the plate.  Works racked up three RBIs on two hits, homering in the third inning and doubling in the sixth.  He also struck out eight, allowed three earned runs on seven hitsand walked one over six innings.  The Miners jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Forrest Walters singled to ignite the Miners' offense, before Carlos Armenteros tripled, scoring Keith Trumbauer. Armenteros then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Blevins.  The Smokies matched its one-run second inning with one more in the fourth. In the second, a single by Wes Drinkard, plated Sal Olivet.  The lead stayed with the Smokies after the third, when they scored three runs on Works homer and an RBI single by Olivet.  The Smokies added two more runs in the top of the sixth. Works doubled to score Josh Watts to start the inning. That was followed up by Jesse Lane's single, which drove Works home.

June29 @ Woodford Middle School

The Miners got three hits each from Keith Trumbauer, Carlos Armenteros and Blade Hampton to give them a victory over the Stallions.  Armenteros and Patrick Garvey also each drove in three runs.  Armenteros completed a fantastic game by scoring three as well.  Ace Heart also crossed the plate three times.  Frank Walters and Lance Shelton combined to hold the Stallions to four runs.  They struck out 10 between them.  Five different Stallions singled, joining Ben Baker’s double to plate their four runs.

June 29 @ Georgetown College

The Smokies continued their winning ways, pushing their streak to five in a row.  Conversely, the Diamond Dogs dropped their third straight game. The Smokies took the last of seven lead changes in a back-and-forth affair in the eighth inning scoring on a single by Jesse LaneEvan Hackney racked up three RBI on four hits.  He homered in the third inning, doubled in the fifth, and singled in the seventh and eighth.  The bottom of the first saw the Smokies take an early lead, 1-0.
