Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Melbourne Ice defeated Sydney Sirens in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Melbourne Ice came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Melbourne Ice was down 3-0 after a goal by Sydney Sirens' Sharna Godfrey at 2:51 in the second period. Melbourne Ice knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Alivia Del Basso at 15:17 in the second period.

Melbourne Ice got the win behind a great game by Kayla Kaluzny, who had two goals and one assist. Kaluzny scored the first of her two goals on the power play at 3:43 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Sydney Sirens. Melbourne Ice earned a power play opportunity when Stephanie Cochrane was put in the box for cross checking. Del Basso assisted on the tally. Kaluzny's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Sydney Sirens with 7:42 left in the second period. Shona Green provided the assist.

Melbourne Ice's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Melbourne Ice finished with 26 penalty minutes. By firing 43 shots on goal, Melbourne Ice exceeded the 3.0 shots it averages per game this year.

Melbourne Ice additionally got points from Del Basso, who also registered one goal and two assists.

With 19 shots on target during the contest, Sydney Sirens exceeded the 3.0 shots it averages per game this year. Sydney Sirens could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Sydney Sirens was helped by Sandra Giustiniani, who tallied one goal. Giustiniani scored on the power play 12:55 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Sydney Sirens. Sydney Sirens had gained a power play chance when Sarah Teed was whistled for hooking. Erin Bow picked up the assist. Amelia Matheson also scored for Sydney Sirens. In addition, Sydney Sirens received assists from Andrea Lim and Brittany McCabe, who contributed one each.

Melbourne Ice's starting goalie, Michelle Coonan, made nine saves and finished with the win before she was taken out in favor of Shanley Peters, who stopped seven shots. Melbourne Ice registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Sera Dogramaci recorded 39 saves for Sydney Sirens. Sydney Sirens registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
