Newcomer Gardner fitting in with Bruins' game plan
Date: Nov 11, 2014

FRASER, Mich. - MC Monarchs' goalie Tyler Skulley stopped all 35 shots he faced as the homestanding Monarchs blanked the Berkley Bruins 4-0 Friday night at Fraser Hockeyland in both teams' Midwest Junior Hockey League season opener.
Adam Jonak and David Hogan each had a goal and an assist for the Monarchs, while Trevor Pode and A.J. DiMercurio scored one apiece. Joe Gibbs tacked on two assists for the expansion Monarchs.
Jonak and DiMercurio played for the Bruins last season.
"We had a few opportunities that we didn't capitalize on," Berkley coach Dan Pszenyczny said. "We weren't constant with our play. We tried to do too much instead of taking what they gave us. Some of our first-year junior players got an eye-opener of how this level of hockey is played, but as the game went on, we got stronger and started understanding what we need to do."
Jacob Gorzelski was solid in net for Berkley, stopping 50 shots in suffering the defeat.
"For not playing in over a year, Jacob played very well," Pszenyczny said. "I saw a lot of great things from him and the best part is that he's going to get better as the season goes on."
The two teams play Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Berkley in the Bruins' home opener.
"I expect us to have a better game tomorrow," added Pszenyczny.
