Kegan Frederick Goes the Distance to Give Falcons Sole Possession of 1st Place

Tuesday’s matchup featured the top 2 teams in the league fighting for sole possession of 1st place. Both team’s aces were in action, going head-to-head. Nate Werner (Concord Univ.) was on the mound for the Mustangs and Kegan Frederick (Cleveland St. C.C.) started for the Falcons. Mustangs were able to get 1 run on the board in the 1st inning, thanks to 2 errors by the Falcons defense. That was the only run production the Mustangs were going to get the rest of the day. Frederick would finish with 7 complete innings, allowing 5 hits, 8 K’s and 0 ER. On the other side of the bump, Werner pitched very well up until the 6th inning, when he ran into some trouble. N.J. Williams (College of Central Florida) and Garrett Wright (College of Central Florida) lead off with back-to-back singles for the Falcons, then both would later score on an RBI single from Evan Speicher (Cleveland St. C.C.). Those 2 runs would end up being the difference maker in the Falcons route to victory over the Mustangs. Kyle Scott (Daytona State College) of the Mustangs and Brian Pfund (Tompkins Courtland C.C.) of the Falcons, each finished with 2 singles.

Mavericks Beat Rangers 4-1 in Effort to Gain Ground in the Standings

David Anderson (Danville Area C.C.) of the Mavs took the mound Tuesday against Raunel Perez (Cleveland St. C.C.) of the Rangers. The Mavs were able to get ahead quickly with 4 runs in the 1st inning from a couple wild pitches, an RBI single from Bobby Tarnapoll (Linfield College) and an RBI double from Luke Miller (ABAC). The 4 runs would end up being more than enough for the Mavs to get the victory, as Anderson pitched the complete game, allowing 2 hits, 1 run and finishing with 3 K’s. The Rangers scored their only run in the 5th inning from an RBI single off the bat of Nick Ruffy (Central Methodist Univ.). Both teams pitched very well, as the Mavs finished with only 4 hits and the Rangers with 3 hits. Perez went 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 5 walks, 4 runs, and 3 K’s. Hunter Jones (St. Johns River State) and Evan Barnes (Sante Fe College) each pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief for the Rangers.
