RAIN OUTS highlight final week of play
Date: Jul 27, 2016
Monday night June the 9th, Pete Goldsby Field will be buzzing with college ballplayers eager to kick off their summer season in the RSCBL. It's opening night, the Extra Innings team will face off against the Best In Class to start the summer.
While opening night is always a exciting event, this year the league has more reason for excitement on opening night, as alumni of the the former Evageline League and Red Stick Old Timers leagues will be on hand to be honored and have a reunion at the ballpark.
The Evageline League was a 6 team Class D minor league in and around Louisiana. It lasted 21 seasons and included teams from towns such as Thibodeaux, New Iberia, Alexandria, and Baton Rouge. Pete Goldsby Field was home to the Baton Rouge Rebels of the 1956 and 1957 Evangeline League seasons, formerly the Baton Rouge Red Sticks.
The Red Stick Old Timers league was the first men's recreational baseball to organize Baton Rouge. It began in 1985 with two teams playing baseball on the weekends and grew into a 4 team league that competed at local parks around Baton Rouge, including Pete Goldsby. In the mid-1990's the Old Timers league evolved into multiple age divisions and joined membership with national men's league organizations such as NABA and MSBL. This evolution has resulted in the current RED STICK AMATUER BASEBALL ORGANIZATION that is the parent organization for the Red Stick Collegiate League.
There will be free admission to Monday night's game, and while the honorees will have jambalayee dinner to reunite, the park will have concessions open and available to all fans in attendance. Also, promotions to prize giveaways from RSABL, Raising Cane's, and Lousiville Slugger during the game.
We hope to see you at the ballpark, Monday night 7 pm at Pete Goldsby Field!
