Date: Jan 5, 2015

*NYCMBL Power Rankings are based on each team’s winning percentage as it appeared on the league website as of 2 p.m. on June 4.
1. Bronx Titans (A Division) 2014 Record: 11-2
That the Bronx Titans are off to a strong start is of little surprise, given the talented squads they’ve fielded in the past. Right now, they are running through the Single-A division. With a couple of good arms leading the way, including Lenny Nieves (2-0, 2.69 ERA) and Pedro Santiago (2-1, 3.66), the Titans have also gotten good contributions at the plate from Matt Freeman and Jason Irizarry who have combined to drive in 23 runs on the year.
2. BX Orioles (Bronx/Manhattan AA Division) 2014 Record: 10-2
The Metro League newcomers have wasted little time emerging as one of the favorites in the BX/Man division. Perennial all-star Matt Ortiz hasn’t been slowed down by an off-season injury, and is currently hitting at .647 with 13 RBIs in just 6 games. Anthony Cabrera has been similarly impressive on the mound, logging a team-high 35 innings for the O’s and posting a 1.80 ERA.
3. Nassau Yankees (Bronx/Manhattan AA Division) 2014 Record 8-2
A preseason favorite, the Yankees haven’t disappointed. Despite a loss to the Giants (which has not yet been entered), the Yanks have hung with the toughest competition the division has to offer. The team has a bevy of arms, as 10 players have taken the mound for the squad so far.
4. Nassau Yankees (A Division) 2014 Record: 7-3
If anyone is going to challenge the Titans in the Single-A division, expect it to be the Yankees. There might not be a hotter hitter in the league than leftfielder Ulysses Mercado, who is batting an astounding .714 at the moment. Manuel Cerda and Greg Daniec are both boasting perfect 3-0 records on the year.
5. NY Beers (Bronx/Manhattan AA Division) 2014 Record: 9-4
With some welcome additions to the pitching staff, the Beers are proving that they are no longer simply relying on Ryan Smith to win games this year. Newcomers like Bobby Steinsdoerfer and Dan Ternowcheck have paid dividends so far, as the Beers’ staff has amassed 135 strikeouts in 83 innings of work.
6. Baisley Pirates(Brooklyn/Queens AA Division) 2014 Record: 8-4
Sitting atop the Bklyn/Queens Division, the Pirates are one of the most balanced teams in the league. Tony Zagoras has been a workhorse, pitching over 40 innings with a sub-2.00 ERA, but rookie Alex Gounaris has shown ace-potential as well. At the plate, David Payero is pacing the club with a .400 average.
7. NYC Mud Hens (Brooklyn/Queens AA Division) 2014 Record: 7-4
With reigning Cy-Young winner Chris Liegel (3-1, 0.90 ERA) and second-year man Will Reynolds (2-1, 0.56) anchoring the rotation, strong pitching has powered the Hens to a good start in 2014. Quinn Duffy has continued his strong play, batting .389, primarily in the lead-off spot.
8. Bronx Titans (Bronx/Manhattan AA Division) 2014 Record: 7-4-1
The Titans have certainly benefited from an influx of new talent, as players like Randy Moya, Sergio Bruno, Lenwood James and Frank Capusano are all batting over .400.
9. NY Storm (Brooklyn/Queens AA Division) 2014 Record: 7-5
The Storm have stayed afloat despite not having ace Mike Pena available, in part because of the emergence of Amauris Santana. The young righty is currently 2-1 with a 1.44 ERA. The defending champs have been on a roll as of late, winning their last 4 games.
10. Cross-Bronx Rockies (Bronx/Manhattan AA Division) 2014 Record: 7-5
Despite battling injuries, the Rockies have found ways to win games this year. Part of their success should be credited to their deep lineup, as the Rockies are hitting .330 as a team. 6-foot-2 right-hander Kevin Marquez is currently 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA.
