OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME – The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide have announced the re-signing of catcher, Mekae Hyde, of Bates College for the 2014 season.
A native of Lewiston, ME, this will be Hyde’s second season with the Raging Tide.
Mekae attended Lewiston High School and had much success. He received several prestigious honors including: First-Team All-Conference (3x), Regional Player of the Year, and KVAC Player of the Year. He has since carried his strong baseball career onto the collegiate level.
In two seasons at Bates College, he has improved his play and been a steady force of consistency for his team. In 2012, Mekae was fourth on the team in batting average (.319), slugging percentage (.440) and runs scored (23), as well as second in stolen bases (9) and third in home runs (2).
In 2013, he was a rock both on offense and defense. He earned First Team All-NESCAC and Second Team All-ECAC honors while ranking third on the team in average (.324), hits (33), runs (19), runs batted in (17) and slugging percentage (.471). Behind the plate, he recorded 113 putouts, 11 assists and only made 2 errors on the season, good enough for a .984 fielding percentage.
For the Raging Tide last season, Hyde was a huge fan favorite and also put up great statistics. During the 2013 season he batted .333 over 20 games on 20 hits. He scored 11 runs, had 6 runs batted in and stole 6 bases. On the field he recorded 105 putouts and 6 assists while amassing a .965 field percentage.
