Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Hampton Roads Whalers defeated Atlanta Junior Knights in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Atlanta Junior Knights' shootout goal was scored by Ian McDonald. Hampton Roads Whalers' other shootout goal was scored by Jeremy Wilson.

Hampton Roads Whalers saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Hampton Roads Whalers made the score 5-2 on a goal by Jonathon Arnaud at 1:48 in the third period. Atlanta Junior Knights evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Josh Weakland at 10:49 in the third period.

Arnaud was all over the ice for Hampton Roads Whalers, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Arnaud scored the first of his two goals short handed at 5:57 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hampton Roads Whalers.
