Storm Signs Corpening
Charlottetown - Sept 18/13

South Wesleyan University's Michael "Mikey" Corpening is the latest player to sign with the Island Storm, pending FIBA clearance.

Corpening, a 6'8", 235 lbs Power Forward, averaged 17 points, 14.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game with the BC Jyvaskyla in Finland (1st Division).

In his Senior Year with South Wesleyan, he averaged 15.2 points, 13.2 rebounds (3rd in the country for NAIA) and 1.3 blocks per game.

Storm Head Coach Joe Salerno says he's expecting great things from Corpening with his professional experience.

"Mike brings another solid inside presence for us. He has averaged a double-double virtually everywhere he has played, and gives us another true scoring threat in the post. He has a tremendous work ethic, and has a team-first mentality. He adds some good size and depth to our front court. I look forward to seeing what Mike is capable of doing in the NBL after coming off a great 1st season overseas in Finland."

Corpening has a decorated basketball career. He was named to the All-Southern Athletic Conference 1st team in 2011, NCAA D2 2nd Team All-American in 2011, and has played professional in both Finland and the United States in the UBA (Universal Basketball Association) and the WBA (World Basketball Association).
