Former Big 10 Star Signs with Storm
Date: Sep 27, 2013
ORANGEVILLE, Ontario. – The Brampton A’s made NBL Canada history today in signing Jameson Tipping from CIS School Brock University in St. Catharine’s, ON. Tipping is the first player to forgo two years of collegiate eligibility and “go pro” prior to graduating in Canada.
The 6’ 7” Canadian born player is the A's 2nd signee (the first was Canadian Evaldas Zabas) and is joining the Brampton A's family as a corner stone piece to the new franchise's desire to build a program that is fun to watch and very competitive.
The first pro basketball player from Orangeville ON, Tipping joins the team after a successful high school career in Florida and a stint with NCAA Division I Tournament team from Western Kentucky University.
Coach Magley is thrilled with landing him, "I have known Jameson since his Senior year in High School when he walked in my gym at Bradenton Christian School a skinny 6'6” shooter, led us to a State Finals appearance where he earned All State and would go on to play big time college basketball. He is a uniquely talented and gifted young man. Long and athletic, he is now 6'7” and weighs about 215 lbs. He can play any of 4 positions from both guards to both forwards and has some of the best range I have ever seen on his jump shot."
Coach Magley believes Tipping is a signee that could one day play in the NBA, "just like Evaldas that we signed last week, Jameson possesses intangibles that can translate successfully at any level. He is not a
'position', he is a 'player' and as such we are hoping to see him compete in the NBA one day."
Magley says he reminds him of a young Mike Miller from the 2 time defending champion Miami Heat, when Miller first came in to the NBA from the University of Florida with unique size to go with phenomenal shooting skills.
For Tipping himself it is a homecoming as he was raised in Orangeville just 30 minutes from Brampton and the Powerade Centre where the A's will be playing their home games.
Jameson puts it this way, "What an amazing and exciting opportunity to play in front of my family and friends as a pro. I remember when Coach Mags told me in High School that I could one day be a pro and now after being pushed by my older brother (A's President Jesse Tipping a former CIS stand out himself), encouraged by my sisters Jacki & Jena and supported by my parents, it is actually happening."
Magley goes on to add, "This is a big deal because Jameson is good enough right now to play in the NBA Development League and with his size and shooting ability would make a great European player. He will add tremendous value to our program".
The Brampton A's will begin their inaugural season November 1st and will be playing their games in the Powerade Centre and be competing in the NBL, Canada's only professional basketball league. The NBL is beginning its 3rd full season and has teams in Windsor, London, Ottawa, Mississauga, Moncton, Halifax, PEI, and Saint John as well as Brampton.
