Owners of the Summerside Storm announced today the formation of a charitable organization which will continue the team’s fundraising initiatives on Prince Edward Island.

The “Storm Kids Charity” is the latest project from team co-owners Duncan Shaw and Darren MacKay. Executive Director of Storm Kids, Jackie Goodwin, says the goal of the organization is to raise money for causes that support the health and well-being of Island children and their families.

“We see this as an extension of the charity work of the Summerside Storm,” says Goodwin. “We had this in the back of our mind to establish a more structured way of giving back to the community and this is another step toward our goal of supporting charitable organizations Island-wide.”

The Summerside Storm professional basketball team has raised $95,000 for charitable organizations in Prince Edward Island over the past year, including Island Boys & Girls Clubs, various Island schools, PEI Food Banks, Easter Seals, the Salvation Army, PEI Minor Basketball Association, and the “Lights for Life” fundraiser at the Prince County Hospital.

The first fundraiser for the Storm Kids Charity, a collaborative project with sister businesses Sherwood BMR and the Summerside Storm, will be unveiled at an official press conference later this month.
