All four members of the Catholic Sports Network football teams picked up wins on Friday night and it was a clean sweep as all four teams won their games on a hot and muggy evening in the Twin Cities. The average margin of victory for the four teams combined was 35 points.

 

Academy of Holy Angels 28  St. Louis Park 7

The Academy of Holy Angels Stars turned aside the challenge of Suburban Red rival St. Louis Park 28-7 behind the legs of Thomas Shelstad who bulldozed and dashed to 180 rushing yards including a back-breaking 97-yard run in the fourth quarter to seal the game for the Stars.  The Stars back also scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to give his team the 14-0 lead early in the third quarter. Quarterback Rook Rowe (6-12-71) connected on a 23-yard touchdown pass to Will Ballard in the third quarter. Rowe now has 4 touchdown passes on the season and boasts a 122.7 passer rating.  AHA improved their record to 3-0 on the season. The defending Class AAAA champs head to DeLaSalle on Friday night at 7pm this week.

 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s 47 DeLaSalle 7

The Benilde St. Margaret’s Red Knights erupted for 20 second quarter points and sprinted their way to 336 rushing yards and a 47-7 win over the DeLaSalle Islanders. Isaiah Smith took advantage of his seven carries and gained 160 yards with a touchdown that accounted for 87 of yard..   Will Petty had 11 carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns, his first from five yards and his second was 45 yards. Quarterback Nick Peterson was (9-23-149) and also had 3 touchdown passes to three different receivers. Zach Swenson, Matt Guggemos, and Mac Clark all caught touchdown strikes from Peterson. The Red Knights held the Islanders to 108 yards of total offense of which 53 of those yards were gained by Julian Wright who put DeLSalle on the board early in the fourth quarter. BSM (2-1) will head to Chanhassen to battle the Storm on Friday night at 7pm.

 

Holy Family Catholic 48 Watertown Mayer 0

The Holy Family Catholic Fire hammered Watertown Mayer 48-0 to improve their record to 2-1 on the season.  The Fire built a 35-0 lead at halftime and cruised to the win on Friday night. They will be in action this Friday night against Delano at 7pm and it will be a feature game on the CatholicSportsNetwork.org.

 

Providence Academy 31 Minneapolis Southwest 0

It has been an impressive start to the 2018 season by the Providence Academy Lions who turned asid the challenge of  the Minneapolis Southwest Lakers 31-0 in Minneapolis Friday evening to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Lions scored points in each of the four quarters including 7 in the first 3 and 10 in the fourth.  Quarterback Max Anderson (13-24-191) threw for a pair of touchdowns and was intercepted once in the game. Jeff Ekiyor rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown averaging 6.9 per carry. The Lions gained 187 yards on the ground for the balanced offensive attack.  Ekiyor as gained 462 yards rushing in his first three games and has 7 touchdowns on his ledger as well. The Lions defense has been impressive this year and allowed 77 yards of total offense against. For the season they have allowed just six points against in three games with two shutouts.  They will look to improve to 4-0 on the season when Minneapolis Patrick Henry heads to Plymouth for a game on Friday night at 7pm.
