Academy of Holy Angels 28 South St. Paul 6
The Academy of Holy Angels Stars stopped the South St. Paul Packers 28-6 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Quarterback Rook Rowe threw three touchdown passes and was an effective 9-13-167. Mitch Hendrickson caught four passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. He made two terrific catches on jump balls, one in which he had to come back for and win the battle on a 50/50 ball. The Stars amassed 163 yards rushing on 41 carries.
The Stars defense was stout again allowing just 6 points and 125 yards of total offense by the Packers. Up next is a home game for the Academy of Holy Angels who will face Suburban Red Division rival St. Louis Park. The game will be featured on the Catholic Sports Network next Friday night and is also Stars Night Out, an incredible celebration for current members of the school, alumni, and potential new students.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s 21 Orono 16
Nick Peterson connected on a 31-yard touchdown pass to Zach Swenson with 1:15 left in the fourth quarter to rally the Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights to a 21-16 win over the Orono Spartans. Peterson threw for 160 yards while the team combined to rush for 150 yards against the Spartans. Isaiah Smith led the way with 80 yards rushing on 18 carries. Malik Robertson picked up 56 yards on 12 carries for the Red Knights to assist in their balanced attack.
The win evened up the Red Knights record at 1-1 on the season. They will host DeLaSalle on Friday night. That game will be featured as a double header on the CatholicSportsNetwork.org.
Litchfield 14 Holy Family Catholic 7
The Holy Family Catholic Fire struck for the game’s first touchdown early in the first quarter. That would be all they would get against the Litchfield Dragons. Nick Hendler scored on a 3-yard run to give the Fire (1-1) the lead. It held up for much of the game during a defensive struggle with both teams.
Brandt Peterson of Litchfield scored on a six yard run late in the third quarter followed by a two-point conversion that was successful giving the Dragons an 8-7 lead that they would not relinquish. Peterson then scored on a 12-yard run in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Dragons.
The Fire are in action Friday night against at Watertown-Mayer with the kickoff slated for 7pm.
