Canada takes Dawgs for a Walk

Date:  Source: NABL: Arizona Winter League

This game was very close for a while, despite Starting Pitcher Ryan Paterson having his usual control issues, but he was not out of control in this one. Giving up 4 runs in 4 Innings pitched was pretty good compared to his previous starts, but when the call to the bullpen came, the game went out the window.

Enter Takashi Uchibori, who looked good during the 1st batter, as he was able to get Chad Bisnette to ground out to Short, but then all hell broke loose. Uchibori lost utter and complete control of his pitches as he walked the next 4 Batters, then hit Kevin Lovelace with a pitch to force in a run, then walked Nick Shaw, which accounted for another run. He then continued his streak by hitting Michael Hur, and walking Cody Jones for another 3 Runs. He finally ended the Inning by getting Bisnette to fly out to Center Field, but by then it was far too late, after giving the Surf Dawgs 8 free bases in a row, which accounted for 4 free Runs, Takashi Uchibori was done for the day, as were Team Canada's chances of winning.

On the other side of the field, Ken Cordoba was in complete control, finishing the game giving up his only runs in the 7th Inning during garbage time. Cordoba threw a complete game only giving up 5 hits, 3 of which came in that 7th Inning. The best thing about Cordoba's game today was his lack of walks, only 4 walks in the game, 2 coming in the 7th as well. Overall great performance from Ken Cordoba as he pulls through for his team and picks up a well deserved W. This will end the regular schedule of games, with our last game of the season coming tonight at 6:00 PM Arizona Time, Playoffs start tomorrow.
