Blake Shaffer Puts His Team on His Back

Date:  Source: NABL: Arizona Winter League

It was a great competitive game this morning between the Arizona Roadrunners and the San Luis Atleticos, but the Roadrunners had a little extra going for them today, as 1st Baseman Blake Shaffer came to play, going 2 for 4 with a bases loaded Triple and a Solo Homerun to give his team the edge over a strong San Luis team, headlined by Pitcher Aryo Flemming. Flemming cruised through the Arizona lineup in the 1st inning, sitting them down 1-2-3, but it was the 2nd that gave him his first bit of trouble.
The trouble came off the bat of Shaffer, who took Flemming's first pitch deep over the Left Field wall. Flemming was resiliant though, retiring the rest of the lineup with no issues. Until of course Shaffer came up again in the 5th inning with the score tied at 2-2. The 1st Baseman came up with the bases loaded and unleashed on a pitch deep into the right center gap, clearing the bases and leaving him standing on 3rd with 1 out. Next up, Catcher Brian Loard poked a double to the gap scoring Shaffer. That would end the scoring for the Roadrunners.

Things got hairy in the bottom of the 6th for Arizona when the Atleticos scored 2, bringing them within 2, the score now 6-4 in favor of the Roadrunners. Unfortunately for the Atleticos, that would be the final score, standing strong behind Winning Pitcher, Kent Worthington, who threw 3 innings in preparation of his upcoming start later this week.
