First Semester Recap

Marist closed out a jam-packed 19 game first semester with two solid home victories in December. 

With a roster comprised of 11 rookies and only five seniors, the Red Foxes faced a lot of ups and downs during the first few months of their season.

Here's a quick glance at some numbers from first semester (by the month):

September

  • 1-0-0 after defeating the University of Vermont 4-2 in Burlington
  • 3 rookie goals (1 from Anthony Vitale, 2 from Justin Genga)
  • Justin Larkin earned the win in net, making 38 saves

October

  • (4-5-1) in October, (5-5-1) overall record
  • 6 out of 10 games were league SECHL matchups, Marist went (2-4-0) in these important games
  • Losing record in October due to many close games
    • 4 of the games ended with the score 2-1, Marist winning 50% of the time
    • In 10 games, Marist scored 27 goals, and had 28 goals scored against
  • Top scorers in October for Marist with 3 goals each: Sean Blaine, Andy Vovk, Justin Genga, Vinny Masters
  • 10/27 goals scored by Marist defensemen

November

  • (2-4-0) in November, (7-9-1) overall record
  • Longest losing streak of the season, losing 4 straight (10/31 vs UNH, 11/6 vs UVM, 11/7 vs MSU, 11/14 vs WPU)
  • Team's two victories were in non-league games vs Roger Williams and Sacred Heart
  • Anthony Farrar lead the team in scoring in November with 4 goals, scoring a hattrick in Marist's 9-4 victory over Sacred Heart

December

  • (2-0-0) in December, (9-9-1)
  • Two of the biggest wins of the season for the team
  • Defeated UNH and UMass, two teams that had beaten the Red Foxes in previous matchups this season
  • Justin Larkin made 71 saves in 120 minutes of play (0.96 SV%). Yeah, you're reading that right. 71 saves in TWO GAMES!
