Haynes attended Madison County High School where he lettered all four years in baseball. Haynes was drafted out of high school by the Boston Red Sox in the 17th round as an outfielder after signing a letter of intent to play at Florida State in 2004.
Haynes went on to attend Tallahassee Community College where he played for two years as a utility player (outfielder and pitcher) earning All-Panhandle Conference accolades each season. He was drafted for a second time in his career, this time as a pitcher by the Los Angeles Angels, following his second year at TCC in 2006.
Haynes played six seasons of professional baseball reaching as high as the Double-A level with the Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League in 2010 in the Angels farm system. In his final season in 2011, he made 26 relief appearances for the Lynchburg Hillcats of the Carolina League – an Advanced Class A squad in the Atlanta Braves organization. Haynes pitched in 156 career games, 47 as a starter, recording 18 wins, two saves and a 4.53 ERA in 387.2 innings of work.
Haynes has coached at Florida State Univeristy, is a head coach of the Jacksonville Crusaders youth baseball program, and is currently the varsity assitant coach at Mandarin High School
