Boyle started his college career at Lower Columbia College in Longview, WA. In 2012 he went 10-1 with two shutouts and a 0.97 ERA in 13 appearances, 11 of which were starts. In 83 2/3 innings pitched, he struck out 86 batters while issuing just 19 walks. His success at the JUCO level allowed him to transfer to D1 University of South Alabama where he pitched in 2013. Boyle made 19 appearances, four starts, with the Jaguars and compiled a 2-2 record while striking out 36 batters in 45.2 innings of work.
