Morgan enters his third season with the Vipers and his first as Manager after two years as the hitting coach. The 12 year pro played for the Boston Red Sox during the 2000 and 2001 seasons as a switch-hitting, left handed throwing first baseman and designated hitter. He also suited up for the Kansas City Royals in the 2003 season. In a 42-game Major League career, Burkhart posted a .248 batting average (30-for-121) with five home runs and 23 RBI, including a solid .366 on-base percentage. Morgan smashed 237 home runs during his career which included six seasons in Triple-A ball. The 37-year old native of St. Louis also knocked in 773 runs during his pro career and had a lifetime .297 batting average. Two of Morgan's brothers, Lance and Damon, have also played professional baseball. Under his tutelage in 2008 the offense led the league in walks(387) and on-base percentage(.402). In 2007 the hitters led the league with a .307 team batting average and set new Northern League records for Runs(618), RBI(577), and on-base percentage(.389). On June 27, 2000 Burkhart started his first MLB game at DH batting 5th behind Nomar Garciaparra. In his first major league at-bat Burkhart received a standing ovation from the Fenway Faithful and then chopped a single through the right side off Mike Mussina. He went 2-4 in his first major league game and was a fan favorite in his brief stay with the Sox. During a four game sweep of Minnesota Twins on July 3-6 Morgan had seven RBI, a double, and a HR. In 25 games with the Red Sox in 2000, Burkhart hit .288 with 4 home-runs and 18 RBI to go along with an impressive .935 OPS.
