A regular third baseman for the University of Nebraska team for four years, Josh was acquired by the Slammers in a trade from the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association for a player to be named later. He played in 45 games this season and hit .274 with 2 homers and 14 RBI. He was 2nd-Team All-Big Ten as a Junior in 2012 with the Cornhuskers when he hit .358 with 8 home runs and 41 RBI. He also stood out defensively, only committing one error in the entire Conference season. He struggled in his Senior season after suffering an elbow injury and hit just .225. He was moved mainly to the DH spot after returning from the injury. Scheffert played 33 games as a freshman and hit .301. He was 1st-team All-State in high school at Lincoln Southeast where he hit .447 as a junior and .416 as a senior.
