Four first-inning runs helped the Newport Gulls (20-5) to a 10-5 win over the Laconia Muskrats (9-17) at Cardines Field on Tuesday.
Brett Winger led the Newport Gulls' offensive threat, as he got on base four times in the game. He scored two runs and had two RBIs. He singled in the first and second innings.
The Laconia Muskrats' lineup had no answer for Frank Holbrook. Holbrook held the Laconia Muskrats hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four.
A bright spot for the Laconia Muskrats in the defeat was John Healy, who allowed only zero runs while striking out seven.
Mathew Aldrich couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Laconia Muskrats, taking a loss. He allowed seven runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked six and struck out two.
