Thamesford holds on for 4-2 win against ExeterSouth Huron Rec Centre Sat, Feb 08, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Thamesford Trojans survived a determined comeback attempt by the Exeter Hawks on the way to a 4-2 win. A goal by Dakota Hill put Thamesford up 4-0 in the first period, but Exeter pulled to within two on Cam Jude's tally 3:26 into the third period. With the win, the Trojans evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Thamesford pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 44 penalty minutes. The Trojans kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Metzger made 32 saves on 36 shots. Team could not crack Exeter's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Thamesford was helped by Mitch Davies, who registered one goal. Davies scored on the power play 13:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thamesford. A cross checking penalty on Christopher Pfaff had put the Trojans on the power play. Jack Saunders provided the assist. Thamesford also got a goal from Nicholas Moniz as well. More assists for Thamesford came via Kyle Walker, who had two and Brad Chambers and James Toye, who each chipped in one. The Hawks forced Thamesford goalie Alex Hutcheson to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Braeden Van Hooydonk also scored for Exeter. In addition, Exeter received assists from Trevor Thornton and Joe Dykstra, who contributed one a piece. The Trojans' Hutcheson stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. For Thamesford, Davies was ejected from the game. Exeter incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
