Dorchester wins tough contest against Aylmer, 4-3East Elgin CC Rink Wed, Feb 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Dorchester Dolphins and the Aylmer Spitfires was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Dorchester emerged with a 4-3 win. The Dolphins gained the winning advantage on a goal by Gus Ford 18:01 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. The win by Dorchester clinched the best of seven series at 4-0. Ford had a great game for the Dolphins, netting two goals. Dorchester pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 50 penalty minutes. The Dolphins kept Aylmer's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dan Black made 28 saves on 32 shots. Dorchester was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 11 man advantages. Dorchester also got points from Brendon O Shaughnessy, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Dorchester also got a goal from Shayne Rhyno as well. More assists for Dorchester came via Matt Ross and Tyler Blue, who each chipped in one. The Spitfires were led by Brad Payne (C), who registered two goals. Payne (C) scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:50 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Aylmer had gained a power play chance when Ben Lawton was whistled for slashing. Adam Szwed picked up the assist. Payne (C)'s next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 1:24 left in the first period. Tyler Marr provided the assist. Jesiah Sweetland also scored for Aylmer. In addition, Aylmer received assists from Mitch Roloson, Clint Walker, and Eric Nemeth, who contributed one a piece. The Dolphins' Craig Wood stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. For Dorchester, Lawton and Collin Hartwick were ejected from the contest. The Spitfires totaled 45 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. For Aylmer, Payne (C) was ejected from the game.
