Port Stanley erases deficit to stun Lucan, 5-4

The Port Stanley Sailors rallied from two goals down to secure a 5-4 win over the Lucan Irish.

Port Stanley never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Sailors fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Lucan's Zach Beaumont at 5:10 in the second period. Port Stanley tied things up at 4-4 on a short handed goal by Tyson Corkum at 18:12 in the second period. The Sailors netted the game winner at 19:08 in the second period on a goal by Corkum.

The win by Port Stanley broke a deadlock and gave the Sailors a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Josh Reda had two goals to lead Port Stanley to victory.

Others who scored for Port Stanley included Dalton Good and Andrew Fenn, who scored one goal each. More assists for Port Stanley came via Anders Adzija, who had two and Zak Jukna, Michael Woolley, Mark Brisson, Findley Brandon, and Ricky Corkum, who each chipped in one.

The Irish put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Sailors to score on any of their eight power plays. Lucan's offense rang up 34 shots on Port Stanley's net.

The Irish were led by Keiron Cobban, who tallied two goals. Cobban scored the first of his two goals short handed at 13:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lucan. Lucan was on a disadvantage when Mike Worby went off the ice for high sticking. Cobban's next tally short handed made the score 4-3 Lucan with 3:30 left in the second period. A tripping penalty on Woolley had put the Irish on the power play. Worby picked up the assist. Lucan additionally got points from Beaumont, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dylan Ross also scored for Lucan. In addition, Lucan received assists from Nik Petrie and Nathan Marcil, who contributed one a piece.

Corkum recorded 30 saves for the Sailors. Port Stanley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Lucan's Tyler Beattie stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Irish incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
