Weaver leads Port Stanley over Lucan, 8-4

The Port Stanley Sailors' Alex Weaver had a big offensive game, scoring four goals and contributing one assist in his team's 8-4 win over the Lucan Irish.

Weaver notched his first tally 9:05 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:13 into the second, at 5:56 into the third, and at 16:24 into the third.

The win gave Port Stanley a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Sailors' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Lucan power plays. Port Stanley forced Lucan goalie Andrew Gantner to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Port Stanley also got points from Tanner Turley, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Port Stanley also had goals scored by Zachary Zinga, Michael Woolley, and Tyler Beaulieu, who scored one goal each. In addition, Port Stanley received assists from Findley Brandon, who had two, Josh DenOtter, who had four, and Andrew Yurek, Anders Adzija, Brad Daly, Mark Brisson, and Connor Tamborro, who each chipped in one.

The Irish kept the Sailors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ricky Corkum made 36 saves on 40 shots.

Lucan was led by Zach Beaumont, who had two goals. Beaumont scored the first of his two goals at 19:09 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Port Stanley. Nathan Marcil provided the assist. Beaumont's next tally made the score 5-3 Port Stanley with 9:04 left in the second period. Nik Petrie picked up the assist. Others who scored for Lucan included Dylan Murray and Andrew Purdom, who each put in one. More assists for Lucan came via Mitch Smith, Kody Tremblay, and Andrew Reichert, who contributed one a piece.

Port Stanley incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Sailors, Dylan Bedard was ejected from the game. Andrew Ganter made 32 saves for the Irish on 40 shots. Lucan incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Irish ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Keiron Cobban was ejected from the game.
