
The Welland Whalers and Orillia Tundras played to a 1-1 tie in the first game of their ACH Wild Card Series on Monday
The Wild Card Series will determine who is awarded the final playoff position in the five team league. The series was necessary because the fourth place Tundras and fifth place Whalers were separated by only three points. In the ACH, a Wild Card Series is played if five points or less separate the fourth and fifth place teams.
Monday afternoon in Welland, the Tundras struck first when Travis Fuller scored late in the first period.
The game would remain scoreless until 9:52 of the third period when Dan Marwick scored a power play marker for the Whalers to tie the game.
Rick Miller stopped 41 of 42 shots in net for the Whalers while Dan Earles made 24 saves in net for the Tundras.
The second game in the two game, total goals series will by played Tuesday at 8:30 pm in Orillia. The winner of the game will move into the playoffs while the loser will be eliminated from postseason play. In the event that the game is tied after regulation time, overtime will be played.
