The Welland Whalers played a strong defensive game on Sunday against the Orillia Tundras but unfortunately didn’t generate enough offense, losing 2-1 to the Tundras.

The game was a must win for the Whalers if they were to remain in playoff contention.

The Whalers will finish up their season with a home game next Saturday against the Whitby Dunlops.

On Sunday in Orillia, the Tundras took a 2-0 lead after the opening period on goals by Richard Kazda and Travis Fuller.

After a scoreless second period, Whalers leading scorer Dan Marwick gave Welland some life when he scored just 52 seconds into the third period. The Whalers tried hard to get the equalizer, outshooting the Tundras 13-8, but Dan Earles couldn’t be beat in net for the Tundras.

Finals shots on net were 35-30 in favour of Orillia.

Game time next Saturday at the Welland Arena is 7:30 pm.
