Dan Marwick had four goals for the Welland Whalers but the Whitby Dunlops still found a way to win, edging the Whalers 7-6 Saturday night in Whitby.

The two teams matched each other in scoring for the first two periods with scores of 2-2 after the first period and 3-3 heading into the third period.

In the third period, the Dunlops took a two goal lead at 14:40 when Kyle Musselman scored shorthanded to put Whitby up 6-4.

The Whalers would cut the Dunlops lead to one when Marwick scored his fourth goal of the game on the power play with 1:58 left in regulation time.

However, 49 seconds later the Dunlops would strike again with a goal by Peter MacKellar.

The Whalers would not fold however and continued to press, being rewarded by a goal from Mike Marquis at 19:23 but that would be as close as the Whalers would get.

Shots on goal favoured the Dunlops 41-34.

Dan Minor had the other Whalers goal. Brett McConnachie led the Dunlops with a pair of goals.

Dayne Davis got the win in net for the Dunlops while Cody Vinnai made 34 saves for the Whalers.

The Whalers will continue on the road with a game on Sunday against the Orillia Tundras. The Whalers must win that game in order to keep their playoff hopes alive as the Whalers trail the Tundras by three points in a race for the final playoff spot.
