The Blast led 4-3 after the opening period and 9-7 heading into the third period.

Chris Downey also had a good night for the Whalers with a pair of goals. Downy was ejected from the game mid-way through the second period after fighting Blast forward Jon Jankus.

Jeff Zatorski and Tanner McGowan chipped in with a goal each to round out the Whalers scoring. Dan Marwick and Zatorski both had three assists.

The Blast outshot the Whalers 36-28.

Cody Vinnai took the loss in net for the Whalers making 26 saves.

The Whalers return to the Welland Arena on Saturday when they face off against the Whitby Dunlops at 7:30 pm.
