The Welland Whalers scored five straight goals to race out to a 5-1 lead and then cruised to a 6-3 victory over the Orillia Tundras.

The Whalers fell behind 1-0 five minutes into the game but three goals before the intermission gave the Whalers a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes. The Whalers outshot the Tundra 20-5 in the opening period.

In the second period, the Whalers continued to score and were leading 5-1 before the seven minute mark of the second period. The Tundras responded with a goal of their own before the period ended to cut the Whalers lead to 5-2 heading into the third period.

John Williamson paced the Whalers with a pair of goals while Drew Minor, Chris Downey, Dan Marwick and Tanner McGowan also scored.

Rick Miller stopped 28 of 31 shots in net for the Whalers.

The Whalers are back in action on Friday when they travel to Dundas to face the Blues before returning home on Saturday to host the Blues.
