The Whitby Dunlops scored two late third period goals to defeat the Welland Whalers 4-2 Saturday night in front of 469 fans at the Welland Arena.
After a scoreless opening period, the Whalers struck first when Jamie Tyminski scored to give the Whalers a 1-0 lead.
It looked as though the Whalers would carry the one goal lead into the third period until Kyle Musselman scored on the power play with just 30 seconds remaining in the second period to tie the game at 1-1.
In the third period, Jason McAuley gave the Dunlops their first lead of the game just 21 seconds into the period but the lead was short-lived as Joe Forte replied for the Whalers just 28 seconds later to tie the game once again.
The game remained tied until Dylan O’Neil put the Dunlops up 3-2 with 2:03 remaining in regulation time. Adam Van Dam added an open net goal nine seconds later.
The Whalers outshot the Dunlops 48-47.
Rick Miller made 43 saves in net for the Whalers.
The Whalers are now off until Friday, December 7th when they travel to Brantford followed by a home game the next night against the Orillia Tundras.
