Derby splits with Kansas Cannons in DH

Game 1

Derby Twins couldn't keep up with Kansas Cannons and fell 13-1 on Thursday.

 

Kansas Cannons opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to three home runs. Kansas Cannons first got on the board when Zach Makarewich homered to left field, scoring two runs.

 

Kansas Cannons scored five runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. Zach Makarewich drew a walk, scoring one run, Cooper Greene tripled, scoring three runs, and Brady Hunt singled, scoring one run.

 

Blake Seefeldt earned the win for Kansas Cannons. The righty allowed four hits and one run (zero earned) over six innings, striking out six and walking one. Ryan Koob pitched three innings in relief for Derby Twins. The reliever surrendered five hits and seven runs while, striking out four and walking four. Alex Morrison took the loss for Derby Twins. The starter went two innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out one and walking four.

 

Joel Lindahl, Tyson Owens, Griffin Cooley, and Damian Garcia each collected one hit for Derby Twins. Derby Twins turned one double play in the game. Derby Twins didn't commit a single error in the field. Noah Allison had the most chances in the field with eight.

 

Kansas Cannons amassed 11 hits in the game. Cooper Greene went 4-for-4 at the plate and led the team with six runs batted in. Brady Hunt and Zeb Henry each collected multiple hits for Kansas Cannons. Kansas Cannons had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Zach Makarewich, Blake Seefeldt, and Zeb Henry led the team with two free passes each.

 

Derby Twins play at home on Thursday against Kansas Cannons in their next game.

 

Game 2

 

Derby Twins defeated Kansas Cannons 13-3 on Thursday thanks in part to seven runs in the fifth inning.  Dawson Robbins drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Joel Lindahl drew a walk, scoring one run, Tyson Owens hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Noah Allison homered to center field, scoring three runs.

 

Derby Twins opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Derby Twins first got on the board when Griffin Cooley singled, scoring two runs.

 

Jack Helberg singled down the right field line on the sixth pitch of the at-bat, which helped Kansas Cannons tie the game at three in the top of the third.

 

Derby Twins captured the lead, 5-3, in the bottom of the fourth after Joel Lindahl singled down the right field line, and Tyson Owens grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.

 

Peyton Walters earned the win for Derby Twins. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and zero runs over three and one-third innings, striking out six and walking one. Kyle Holzer took the loss for Kansas Cannons. The right-handed pitcher went four innings, surrendering five runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out five and walking none. Carter Kutz started on the bump for Derby Twins. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and three runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking four.

 

Derby Twins tallied 10 hits in the game. Noah Allison drove the middle of the lineup, leading Derby Twins with three runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Cade Sutherland, Noah Allison, and Damian Garcia each collected two hits for Derby Twins. Griffin Cooley stole two bases. Derby Twins ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game. Derby Twins were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Dawson Robbins had the most chances in the field with nine.

 

Jack Helberg, the number seven hitter for Kansas Cannons, led the way with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Nico Rodriguez and Jack Helberg each collected two hits for Kansas Cannons.

 

Next up for Derby Twins is a game against Liberal BJ’s on Saturday.
