Derby falls to Kansas Cannons 11-4

Kansas Cannons scored six runs in the seventh inning, which helped them defeat Derby Twins 11-4 on Wednesday.

 

Derby Twins got on the board in the first inning after Noah Allison singled, scoring one run.

 

Derby Twins committed an error, which helped Kansas Cannons tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.

 

In the top of the third, Derby Twins broke up the tie when Kole Dudding drew a walk, scoring one run. Then a single by Griffin Cooley followed to extend the lead to 3-1.

 

Kansas Cannons tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a single by Hunter Alvord, and a ground out by Owen Baxter.

 

A single by Griffin Cooley gave Derby Twins the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fifth.

 

Teigan Munce homered to left field, which helped Kansas Cannons tie the game at four in the bottom of the fifth.

 

A solo home run to left field by Jack Helberg gave Kansas Cannons the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the sixth.

 

Kansas Cannons scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. An error scored one run, a steal of home scored one run, Gunnar Gustafson doubled, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs.

 

Cade Sutherland led things off on the bump for Derby Twins. The pitcher gave up six hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Gavin Hoffman opened the game for Kansas Cannons. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and four runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking five.

 

Griffin Cooley, the number seven hitter for Derby Twins, led the way with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Cade Sutherland, Noah Allison, and Griffin Cooley each collected two hits for Derby Twins. Kole Dudding paced Derby Twins with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Cade Sutherland stole two bases.

 

Kansas Cannons piled up 11 hits in the game. Gunnar Gustafson, the number nine hitter for Kansas Cannons, led the way with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Teigan Munce went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Kansas Cannons in hits. Owen Baxter stole two bases. Kansas Cannons turned one double play in the game. Kansas Cannons were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Owen Baxter had the most chances in the field with 10.

 

Derby Twins play at home on Thursday against Kansas Cannons in their next game.
