That was all Sanford could muster, as in the bottom of the fifth, Cuyler Baxter (Wake Forest) tied the game at one apiece with an RBI single.
Nelphie Lopez (Stetson) would add on in the bottom of the second with a sac fly to give North Adams the lead at 2-1. That was all the SteepleCats would need, as they’d take the win for game one at home

Vermont Mountaineers vs. Keene SwampBats
Final Score: Keene 15, Vermont 10
Keene, NH – Ty Mainolfi (Boston College) had himself a day, going 5-5 for the SwampBats as they took down the Vermont Mountaineers 15-10 in a high-scoring, error-filled contest.
Vermont took the lead in the top of the first with a pair of sacrifice flies, but Keene responded right away in the bottom of the frame. After the first four batters were either walked or hit by a pitch, the SwampBats plated five, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Nicholas Romano (FAU). The Mountaineers committed two errors in the inning, but the sloppy defense was far from over. With another two errors in the second, Vermont was lucky to only give up one run, falling behind 6-2.
The Mountaineers managed to tie the game in the fourth, after a big inning led by a two-RBI double from Sam Gates (George Washington) brought the score to 6-6. However, Keene added a run in the bottom of the frame on a Mainolfi RBI single, quickly regaining the lead.
Vermont jumped back in front with RBIs from Jaylen Hernandez (Winthrop), Joey Pagano (St. Joseph’s), and Braeden Smith (Charleston) in the sixth, and another from Hernandez in the seventh to take a 10-7 lead. Yet, two more errors in the bottom of the seventh allowed Keene to get back in it, now trailing just 10-9, before everything unraveled in the eighth. The SwampBats scored six runs in the frame, with Mainolfi and Chandler Tuupo (Charleston Southern) each having two-RBI singles. Two more runs scored on wild pitches to put Keene in front by five.
Vermont had a whopping eight errors on the day, and continues to spiral in the wrong direction as they drop their fifth consecutive game and fall to 10-18. The Mountaineers look to get back in the win column on Friday against the North Shore Navigators, while Keene climbs to 19-9 and travels to Sanford tomorrow for a modified doubleheader, with first pitch of the resumed game coming at noon.
