Sanford Mainers vs. Martha’s Vineyard Sharks
Final Score/4: Sanford 3, Martha’s Vineyard 2 *RESCHEDULED DUE TO FOG*
The Sharks hosted the Mainers for a battle that was unfortunately cut short due to heavy fog rolling into the Vineyard. What was played of the game however, did not disappoint. Sanford got to work right away in the top of the first, when Brendan Sencaj (Bentley) hit a solo home run, putting the Mainers on top, 1-0. The Sharks fired right back in the bottom of the first, when Gio Colasante (Harvard) launched an opposite field shot over the right field wall to tie the game at 1-1.
Sanford would strike again in the top of the fourth, when Trey King (Georgia) hit a two-RBI double, bringing the lead back for the Mainers at 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Brady Krzciok (Central Michigan) hit an RBI double, cutting into Sanford’s lead to make the score 3-2.
Unfortunately, the game would be suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning due to fog. Next Wednesday, July 16th, the game will be made up as a doubleheader at Sanford, picking up from where it left off in the bottom of the fourth with runners on second and third.
Vineyard heads to Muzzy field in Bristol to play the Blues on Saturday, July 12th at 6:30pm. The Mainers will take a day off before hosting Vermont at 4:30pm on Sunday, July 13th.
Valley Blue Sox vs. Ocean State Waves (Game One)
Final Score/9: Ocean State 6, Valley 5
South Kingstown, RI – In game one of the Friday doubleheader, the Ocean State Waves defeated the Valley Blue Sox in a 6-5 extra-inning thriller.
Originally scheduled for seven innings, it took nine to settle the battle between the South Division rivals. The Waves jumped out in front in the second with RBIs from Kayle Pisano (Oregon) and Jack LaRose (UConn), before Valley responded with a run in the top of the third on a Nicholas Spaventa (Penn) RBI single. Michael Elko (Richmond) then drove in Wyatt Hunt (Monmouth) in the fifth to tie the game at two apiece.
Ocean State regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Ryan Gerety (Northeastern), Kolton Reynolds (Arkansas), and Coen Niclai (Oregon) had RBI hits to put the Waves in front 5-2.
In the sixth, Mike Lucarelli (Penn St) got a big inning started for Valley after stealing third and scoring on an error by the catcher. Hunt and Gavin Schrader (Troy) added two more runs with RBI hits in the frame, tying the game at five.
Remaining tied after the seventh and eighth, Ocean State’s Garret Helsel (Xavier) remained composed with the extra inning runner on second, shutting out the Blue Sox in the ninth. Then, in the bottom of the frame, Greg Pettay (South Alabama) delivered an RBI single to walk this one off and earn his team’s 14th win of the season.
Helsel picked up the win for the Waves, while Andrew Wertz (Salve Regina) was issued the loss.
Valley Blue Sox vs. Ocean State Waves (Game Two)
Score: Blue Sox 2, Waves 0
Holyoke, MA – Game Two between the Valley Blue Sox and Ocean State Waves got underway on Friday night but was postponed to another date after just one inning of play. Before the inclement weather arrived, the Blue Sox got out of the gates quickly, amassing a 2-0 lead.
The game will resume on a later date with Valley up 2-0 heading to the top of the second inning.
The Waves will host the Newport Gulls Saturday evening, while the Blue Sox will visit the North Adams Steeplecats Saturday as well.
Keene SwampBats vs. Mystic Schooners
Final Score: Keene 9, Mystic 5
Mystic, CT – The Keene SwampBats defeated the Mystic Schooner 9-5 Friday night, improving Keene to a league best 21-10 on the season.
It was the Keene SwampBats who started the scoring off in the top of the fourth as each team was able to hold each other to three scoreless innings. Ripken Reese (Kent State) crossed home plate on a groundout to register the first run, and later in the inning, Ty Mainolfi (Boston College) was able to scamper home on a wild pitch.
The SwampBats continued to add to their lead in the top of the very next inning. Zack Thompson (Gardner-Webb) was able to score the first run by crossing home plate on a walk. Andrew Bell (Duke) then came home after another wild pitch squirted past the catcher. Mainolfi added two more runs with a double and later came home to score on a Nick Romano (FAU) RBI single.
The Schooners were able to answer two of the runs scored by Keene in the bottom of the fifth inning. Davis Johnson (Notre Dame) took a ball deep for a solo shot, bringing in the first, while Christian Scanlon (Merrimack) singled to bring home the next run. The Schooners added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth with a David Mendez (Vanderbilt) single and Maddix Dalena (UConn) RBI single, bringing the lead to 7-4.
Keene closed the door in the top of the seventh, adding two more runs with Ryan Jaros (Rutgers New Brunswick) adding the first RBI on a single, and Chandler Tuupo (Charleston Southern) sacrificing an at-bat to bring in the final run.
Mystic added one more run in the bottom of the seventh when Anthony Belisario (UConn) walked home on a wild pitch; however, it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.
Kyle Peters (UConn) was given the win while his fellow SwampBats, Jake Hooker (Xavier), was issued a save. Connor Gatwood (Auburn) was given the loss
The SwampBats return to action Saturday night as they travel to face the Upper Valley Nighthawks. The Schooners return to the diamond Saturday night as they sail north to face the Navigators

Bristol Blues vs Newport Gulls
Final Score: Newport 10, Bristol 7
Newport, RI – The battle for first place did not disappoint as the Newport Gulls toppled the Bristol Blues 10-7, securing first place in the south division ahead of the All-Star Break.
The Gulls jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first as Randy Seymour (Michigan State) took a ball deep for a three-run home run.
The Blues responded with a Trevor Hansen (Manhattan) two-run home run in the top of the second. The Gulls took the lead right back in with a Matthew Bolton (Binghamton) two-run single, making the score 5-2
The Blues cut the lead with a Nate Lincoln (Marist) RBI single. However, the Gulls took two runs on a Kyle Branch (Oklahoma) double and a groundout that brought home Josh Castellani (Clemson).
Bristol then answered the two runs with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth. Dean Oneill (UMaine Orono) smacked a ball for a two-RBI double, bringing the score to 7-5.
The Gulls then added three straight runs in the next three innings, Michael Gupton (Samford) scored on a fielder's choice in the sixth, Gupton launched a sacrifice fly in the seventh, and finally, the Gulls' Adam Agresti (St. John) added an RBI single in the eight to bring the score to 10-5.
The Blues tried to mount a comeback in the top of the ninth when Trevor Hansen and Jaime Palmese (East Tennessee State) scored on back-to-back walks. However, this did not spark a comeback as the Newport pitching staff was able to get out of the inning.
The Newport Gulls return to the diamond Saturday as they face the Ocean State Waves. The Bristol Blues are back in action as they host the visiting Martha’s Vineyard Sharks Saturday.
