LIMA LOCOS @ XENIA SCOUTS - DH
GRADY’S FIELD - In a matchup of the two top teams in the GLSCL the Lima Locos and the Xenia Scouts split a double header Tuesday on Grady’s Field at Browne Stadium.
The Scouts (18-10) took the first game 4-2 while the Locos (19-9) won the second game in extra innings 6-2.
The Scouts got off to an early lead in the first game never trailing on its way to the 4-2 victory.
Troy Lynch (University of Minnesota Duluth) crossed the pay station first on an RBI-single by Caleb Webster (Trevecca Nazarene). Kaden Wu (Taylor University) was walked with the bases loaded forcing home Rolen Reyes (Westmont College) from third base. Webster then came around to score on an RBI-single to left field by Johnathan Jackson (Harding University).
The Scouts tacked on another run in the fourth when Wu reached on an error and later scored on a base hit by Noah Manasan (Arizona Christian).
The Locos scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning but that was all the closer Lima would get in this one.
Will Briggs (UMass) doubled to right field driving in newcomer Colton Shirley (Purdue Fort Wayne). David Falloon (Mercer University) later scored in the inning on an RBI-groundout by another newcomer Anthony Sarro (Fairleigh Dickinson).
Xenia starting pitching Ryne Kaiser (Alvin CC) went seven strong innings earning his first victory of the season. Kaiser notched eight strikeouts giving up two runs on four hits and allowing two walks.
The nightcap was tied 2-2 after the regulation seven innings. The Scouts had a chance to win it in the bottom of the seventh but left the bases loaded forcing the game into extra innings.
The Locos broke the tie in the eighth inning when Cole Crafton (University of Louisville) doubled driving home Brecken Menuet (Louisiana Tech). Evan Holstein (Kennesaw State) grounded into a fielder’s choice with Payton Ebbing (Kent State) scoring on the play and Crafton crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Brady Fitzpatrick, who just announced his commitment to Morehead State, retired the Scouts in order in the bottom eight inning salvaging a spilt in the double header. Fitzpatrick pitched three shutout innings in relief for his second victory of the season. He gave up just two hits and one walk while striking out four batters.
Each team continues to lead its respective division and will face off again on Wednesday. The two teams will play another double header on a second consecutive day this time in Lima at Simmons Field.
MUSKEGON CLIPPERS 17 FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 8 - FINAL
MARATHON DIAMONDS - The Muskegon Clippers overpowered the Flag City Sluggers in the late innings taking the first game of the series 17-8.
Muskegon (12-16) trailed 6-2 going into the seventh inning when it’s bats woke up. The Clippers scored seven runs in the seventh followed by three more in the eighth and finishing with five in the ninth.
Ashten Wong (LSU Shreveport) started the scoring assault with a three run homer in the seventh cutting the deficit to 6-5. Aidan Robinson (Northwood University) tied the game 6-6 with an RBI-single driving in Davis Weeks (Michigan State commit). Muskegon took the lead when Taylor Head (Chattanooga State Tech) was hit by and pitch allowing Cole Leclair (Texas A&M Texarkana) to score from third base. After Jack Bakus (Lansing CC) delivered an two-run single capping off the inning the score was now 9-6.
Flag City (13-13) answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh but Muskegon scored three more extending it’s lead to 12-7.
The Sluggers again scored a single run in the eighth but Flag City delivered a five-run knockout blow in the ninth inning.
Casey Barnes (University of Northwestern Ohio) came in to pitch the ninth for the Clippers setting down the Sluggers completing the comeback victory.
Bakus was 4-for-6 with three RBIs at the plate for the Clippers. Wong reached base six times contributed a balanced line going 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs, three walks and four runs scores.
Bret Reed (Lawrence University) and Will Lafferty (Marshall University) each had two hits and two runs scored for the Sluggers. Reed added a double and Lafferty two RBIs for good measure.
The series continues with the rubber game on Wednesday in Findlay. The first pitch is scheduled at Marathon Diamonds for 7:05pm.
MICHIGAN MONARCHS 12 HAMILTON JOES 2 - FINAL/8 Innings
HILLSDALE COLLEGE - The Michigan Monarchs returned home greeting its fans with a run-rule victory taking down the Hamilton Joes 12-2 in eight innings.
Hamilton (14-14) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Jackson Wang (Wabash Valley) continued his hot hitting. Wang’s two-run single scored by Miguel Correa (Central Michigan) and Travis Yankovich (Lake Erie College).
As it turned out those would be the only runs the Joes would score for the entire game.
Michigan (14-14) scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning with the benefit of just two hits. Manny Gutierrez (Henry Ford CC) lead off the inning hitting a solo home run.
The Monarchs proceeded to load the bases on three consecutive walks. Kenny McKinley (Middle Tennessee State) scored on an RBI-ground out by Justin Best (University of New Orleans). The next four Monarchs were also issued free bases before Gutierrez, coming to the plate for a second time in the inning, finished off the scoring with an RBI-single.
The Michigan pitching staff held it down after that led by reliever Austin Fisher (Oakland University). Fisher threw three shutout innings with three strikeouts giving up just one hit. He earned his first victory of the season in four decisions.
The Monarchs finished off the Joes early scoring twice in the bottom of the eight inning.
Christian Holmes (Illinois Chicago transfer), who went 3-for-4 on the night, provided his second double of the game driving in Tyler Fox (Ohio State University). Kooper Etheridge (Madonna University) scored the game-ending run when Ben Brittingham (Hanover College) reached base on a Joes error.
The series wraps up on Wednesday with a double header at Hill Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 4:35pm.
SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 14 GRAND LAKE MARINERS 9 - FINAL
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Southern Ohio Copperheads won the opening game of the three-game series with a 14-9 road victory over Grand Lake Mariners.
Southern Ohio first baseman Brendan Willadsen (Adrian College) was a triple short of the cycle going 3-for-4 with a double and his first home run of the season. Willadsen scored three runs along the with a stolen base and three RBIs.
Ronnie Rowley (MidAmerica Nazarene University) stuffed the stat sheet for the Copperheads going 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Southern Ohio racked up 16 hits in the game with two more batters chipping in with three hits apiece. Frankie Clark (Eastern Michigan) had three hits and a game-high four RBIs. Reed Woodland (Trinity University) was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Tylan Graves (Southwest Tennessee CC) added three stolen bases completing a balanced offensive effort for the Copperheads.
The Mariners produced some productive offense with nine runs on 12 hits but it wasn’t enough to avoid its seven consecutive loss.
Brandon Lang (Southwestern University) and Chase Alwardt (University of Indianapolis) each provided three-hit games for Grand Lake.
The series continues on Wednesday at Montgomery Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm.

The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
