South Shore Gets Win and a Tie in Sag Harbor Doubleheader
Date: Jul 6, 2025
The Southampton Breakers made a statement on Sunday at Cochran Park, sweeping a doubleheader against the previously red-hot North Fork Ospreys. Southampton rolled to an 11-4 win in Game 1 before outslugging North Fork 15-9 in Game 2, snapping the Ospreys’ six-game winning streak and improving their playoff positioning. North Fork, which had won six straight coming into the day, now sits at 15-7-1, while the Breakers improved their record to 11-10-2.
Southampton wasted no time in the opener, striking for five runs in the first inning and never looking back. The top of the Breakers order set the tone, with Luke Treese (Haverford) collecting three hits and scoring twice, and Collin Quintano (Villanova) blasting his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning.
Nick Slogik (Rowan College at Gloucester) also contributed a big day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, including a double. Alex Apicella (Rowan College) added two RBI, and Luke Fisher (NYU) crushed his first homer of the year.
Breakers starter Drew Sliwkowski (UMass) earned his third win of the summer, striking out six over four innings of two-run ball. Giacomo Travaglia (Fordham) closed the door over the final three innings to earn the save.
For North Fork, Rocco Cimino (Pace) drove in two runs with a pair of hits, and Trevor Dosenbach (Richmond) added an RBI single.
The second game was a high-scoring affair, highlighted by Quintano’s record-breaking blast. In the fourth inning, Quintano launched his second home run of the day — and ninth of the season — surpassing Robb Scott’s (Bucknell) long-standing franchise record of 11 career home runs set between 2010-2012. Quintano finished the doubleheader with four RBIs, capping off a historic performance for the Breakers.
Southampton jumped ahead again with a five-run first inning and a seven-run fifth inning, powered by Slogik, who continued his hot streak with a 4-for-5, three-RBI effort, and Apicella, who went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, including a double. Tim Denet (Le Moyne) and Derek Diaz (Le Moyne) also chipped in with multi-RBI games.
North Fork, despite trailing by as much as 15–5, mounted a spirited comeback attempt. Thomas Matuszewski (Mount St. Mary's) belted a solo homer in the fifth inning and finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Nick Pratt (UMBC) drove in two runs and James Fagnant (Richmond) had two hits and an RBI. The Ospreys pulled within six but couldn't close the gap.
Breakers starter Kevin Baez (Thomas Jefferson) picked up the win despite allowing five runs in four innings and improved his record on the season to 2-1.
